The Hour 25 Archives
Special Sound Clips

Back when I first started taping Hour 25 in 1974 it ran 3 hours. The way
things worked out there was a little more than 3 hours of tape on the open
reels I used so I taped the start of the following show. For a long time that
was "Softcore Phonography." Most of these clips are from that show.
These clips may or may not fit your defenition of strange. Take a listen and
hear what you think.
- Station I.D. - Time: 0:10.
This is the very first thing I ever recorded off KPFK, Mitch Harding doing
a very strange station I.D..

- Language Disclaimer - Time: 0:51.
KPFK was known as "Free Speech Radio," and so one thing you
often heard was the "bad language disclaimer." Mitch Harding I'm
sure did plenty of them but this is perhaps the most unusual.

- Candy Is Dandy... - Time: 0:06.
Mitch says the famous SF phrase which I beleive was originated by Susan
Fox.

- Americans - Time: 2:40.

- KPFK Song - Time: 2:24.
I don't know who did this song but it's stuck in my mind since I first
heard it in October 1974.

- Fund Raising Promo - Time: 1:47.
Mike Hodel produced lots of spots for KPFK, this is, to me at least, an
interesting one which could be called "Never Give Anything Away."

- The Raid - Time: 6:02.
Fund raising has always been part of KPFK ... but would their creditors
come and reposses things if KPFK didn't pay its bills?

- Softcore Phonography - Time: 7:26.
Hour 25 ran from 11:00pm to 2:00am until the end of April 1975 when it
went to 12:00am to 2:00am. The show imediately following it was Softcore
Phonography. This is the opening that show used for quite some time. I include
it here because Mike Hodel was part of The Janice Company which periodically
did live radio.
